Third Years Fashion Show

I went to the third years fashion show last night and was surprised by the venue i though it was really good and for the first time felt like a fashion show, as i felt last years was too complicated. I t was good the catwalk was just straight up and down.

Definitely gave me some ideas for our show.

Work Placement Done

it has been long and stressful at times but i have come out better prepared for third year and hopefully real life as a designer. i spent my last day changing patterns and cutting out more fabric for the shirt dresses and felt i had really improved when it came to cutting the printed silk.

Work Placement Week 2 - Part 2

So i continued to pack up the blouses and then i was asked to make scarves. so i have made up 9 scarves which was interesting as i had to finish them by hand sewing which was better than i expected after having not done any in a long time.
Then i finished of all the shirt dresses by sewing the buttons on and finished of the waistbands.

I have felt i have learnt a lot more this week, business wise and making wise. It has got me thinking a lot about the collection for leeds fashion show and how i really want the brand to have a strong mission statement and branding for example, labels that could be embroidered with the logo or just the name. i feel like i am inspired so have been jotting down a few designs.

This collection really inspires me for my next project as i really want to focus on texture and playing with intergrating different fabrics such as wool and latex. i really like this almost gradual but defined change of colour from Ostwald Helgason.

I think there is a part of me that wishes i could design so simply and with this feeling of minimalism.

Work Placement Week 2 - Part 1

i spent my day ironing and packing up blouses to be sent to the shops. I also had to check each blouse for marks as they obviously cant have any faults. i feel like i have learnt a lot more about the business side of fashion today, for example thinking about the brand such as website, swing tags and bags all has to fit in with the brand.

After visiting GFW yesterday i am excited and scared for the next year. it is exciting as we will finally see our designs made up and finished but will i be able to get to this point without having a break down.

i thought GFW was really good and some uni's stuff was really good and others was really bad, so there was a feeling of im somewhere in the middle hopefully. after speaking to the third years at the show yesterday i really want to work on my illustrations as it is something i struggle with and i think it would help me for third year if ive found my style.

Looking at Leeds college of arts portfolios was really interesting and i though they were some of the best but looking through the yearbook i didnt think anything really stood out compared to other collections i had seen.

Work Placement - Week 1

This week has gone well. it has been quite slow and repetitive but i have learnt patience. i have been cutting out pattern pieces all week. It has been quite tricky because it has been on silk and a print which has to be perfect. By the end of the weak i found it easier so its all about practice. I definitely feel that cutting out my final patterns out of my fabric next year has to be easier than doing this, so perhaps its a good thing.

These collars are the best thing i have seen they are by Eleven Objects and are gorgeous i want every single one. What a way to accessorise.

Candy Chang

Candy Chang turned an abandoned house into a giant chalkboard for people to write what they want to do before they die. i think this i a really interesting concept and turns a neglected space into something constructive.

The chalkboard was full after one day and it was then photographed and cleaned to start again.

Sustainable Show

"The British Fashion Council (BFC) today announced that it will host the first Sustainable fashion show on the official LFW catwalk schedule to showcase key looks from established and emerging designers working sustainably. The show will be held in partnership with START, an initiative by The Prince’s Charities Foundation to promote and celebrate sustainable living. The partnership reinforces the BFC’s commitment to sustainable fashion through its Estethica initiative. A significant number of designers from Estethica will be showcasing their S/S 2011 collection as part of the first Sustainable catwalk show on the London calendar." 14th Sept 2010
