Making My Pattern

Yesterday i started making my full scale pattern which at first i made too short and then i made it longer and it was perfect. I am really happy with my design but needed to work out how i could make it out of tracing paper as the biggest size it came in was A0 so i needed to put in seams and a yoke so that i could make it work.

Final Design

Text with the wood print on the hem and yoke. All made out of tracing paper with the same text going on the cones on the front as well.

PPD: Third Year Assistant Day 2

Today I carried out pretty much the same tasks printing and researching but i got to talk more about how she has found the course and all about the pathways. i am starting to think about pathways but dont feel i know a lot so am looking forward to having a talk about it with our tutors. i feel at the moment my strengths are probably designing and i feel i lack in making but really enjoy making patterns and creating what you have drawn in 2D. When you finish a pattern its such a sense of achievement even working on the stand and then moving it into a pattern and onto full scale with interdisciplinary i felt i had achieved so much. However i do not feel like if given a picture of a piece of clothing that i could just make it which i expected to be able to do. Therefore i would like some more practice and teaching.

Prototype

I played around with paper as i felt my designs were too decorative and i started to think about putting the cones inside one another and experimenting with the whole skirt being a cone.

After doing these experiments i felt much more inspired.

Maurizio Galante

when researching for my interdisciplinary module i came across this designer who i think is incredible he really experiments with the fabrics he uses and creates something contemporary and amazing.

Ying Gao

i recently found these images on a blog and after playing around with organza, tracing paper, and acetate this week for my new project i found this really interesting and inspiring as i need to consider what light would affect my designs and maybe this could part of my piece.

Contextual Studies

we have to hand in contextual studies tomorrow and im really stressing about it as i feel really negative about this part of the course as i really struggle with putting together essays and writing. But i have tried my hardest and got 62% in my essay so hopefully the rest of my portfolio will be ok. Fingers crossed.

PPD: Third Year Assistant Day 1

For this module we have been assigned a third year fashion student and we will be there assistant every wednesday for 5 weeks. i really enjoyed today as it was interesting to find out what goes into their degree show and how they have found the course so far. I was put with a student on pathway A which is the more promotional side of the course so i spent my day researching, printing and putting together the blank slides of a powerpoint. I found that i didn't have a lot contact with the actual fashion side of her project but i think this will hopefully change next week. I feel that my third year was quite organised and had lots of tasks for me to do which i think benefited me as i didn't want to feel like a spare part just hanging around.

Overall today was good but i would like to see a bit more of her actual research and design work to see how she works in the designing side of things.

Interdisciplinary

We got re-briefed today and told what we were going to be making and designing for this project and that is a maxi skirt i was quite worried about this but as soon as i started researching them i found quite a few that were much more contemporary.

Grace Kelly

The exhibition opens today at the V&A. i really want to go and see this exhbition as when it was reviewed in the Guardian it was described how her clothes were really used and it is the absolute opposite to how celebrities act today. i think this is vital with the economic environment and i think people need to start wearing clothes more instead of getting bored of them and buying something new.

I have just signed up for Race for Life. I am doing 5KM and am hoping to run all of it.

Julian Louie A/W 10

I absolutely love this collection by Julian Louie i love the lines and silhouettes of the clothing it looks like it has been inspired by architecture. i love how the seams and dart manipulation really make this collection and it has inspired me to really consider this when designing a collection as it can have such an amazing effect, shown in this autumn winter collection.

Burberry Prorsum

I love this A/W 2010 collection i absolutely love the textures and even in my work i have been focusing on textures so maybe that is why i like it so much. i love the double collars and i would love to be able to buy one of these jackets for this winter it would definitely keep me warm in leeds!
